Bree Boyce Makes History For The Fat People

When I interviewed Bree for ‘Finding Thin’ months ago, she did nothing but intrigue me.

This woman weighed over 230 Pounds and lost it all…only to win a local beauty contest to become “Miss Cap Cities”.

She was awe-inspiring and I wished her the best of luck for her future endeavors.

Recently, Bree went on to become Miss South Carolina. Bree was making history. She was an obese woman that shredded the pounds by eating well and working out, and she could possibly be our next Miss America.

Bree is the first person to raise the bar for what can be done with weight loss and personal success.

Surely she still would have been beautiful, but had Bree stayed at her original weight, I don’t believe she would have the same outcome in pageantry.

She is not only a front runner Miss America, but a front runner in teaching our obese society that we can lose our weight and most importantly, be healthy. There are so many good looking and healthy people stuck in overweight body’s and stuck from getting out.

Bree escaped her obese path by the good old fashioned way… and she made all of us heavy folk proud, and most of all, hopeful.

She’s a hero.

We’ll Figure It Out Tomorrow…

What is it about tomorrow? We always say:

Well, tomorrow’s a brand new day.

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow, you’re only a day away.

Just sleep on it and figure it out tomorrow.

Tomorrow has become a coping concept within our lifestyles. Instead of living in the moment, we settle for tomorrow to have the answer we are looking for. We’ll figure it all out tomorrow.

Especially when it comes to taking initiative on our health.

We always say:

Tomorrow I will start working out.

Tomorrow I will start that diet.

Tomorrow I will start living a healthy lifestyle.

We use tomorrow as a crutch for the inevitable necessities in our life. We’ll hold off just a little bit longer, even by just a minute, in order to put off life’s decisions.

In all reality, tomorrow isn’t just a day away. We will do anything to wait and see what happens, even though life is happening right now.

John Lennon famously said, “Life happens while you’re busy making other plans.” This concept is especially applicable to the decisions we make about our health as we get older, and hopefully wiser, the necessity of making a conscientious decision becomes more imperative. We choose to eat the candy instead of the apple. We choose to take the elevator instead of the stairs. We are constantly choosing the way we want to live and the route we want to take in every present moment, yet our mindset tends to drift off into the future.

Sure I’ll treat myself to a 7-course meal tonight, but tomorrow I’ll be sure to work it off at the gym.

Today needs to be the day where we make the change. We need to stop waiting. We need to stop counting on the unknown and instead stay present in what we know right here, right now.

Empowering yourself to make the small decisions everyday will create many more tomorrows.

Isn’t It Too Hot To Exercise?

Too Hot To Handle?

As part of my workout routine-specifically for cardio-I have started walking. But lately, the temperature has been boiling hot. Walking outside is my favorite activity for keeping up with my healthy lifestyle and losing weight, but I am at a loss.

It’s way too hot to even get in the car and drive to a gym. There must be some exercises that I can do at home without spending money. I constantly hear about activities happening all around the area, the city, etc. but there are so many obstacles of actually having the will or strength to get out there.

I have so little time to exercise regardless and with the weather hindering my normal work out regime… I have to find a house workout. Even an office workout would suffice! Can I even do Tony Horton’s P90x in my computer room? Yoga? Zumba? Pilates? I’ve even heard of a “Yoga Booty Ballet” video…

It is frustrating to start something you can’t maintain. So if anyone has some great suggestions, I would love to hear them.

In the meantime, stay cool.

Tony Horton and P90X: The Great Weight Loss Tool

I know most of you have probably heard about P90X or about the man behind it, Tony Horton. After hearing all the hype myself, I wondered if this man could live up to the new craze.

After our latest trip out to Los Angles, I must admit that he certainly does. Tony easily puts me to shame at the age 52 when it comes to his health, not to mention that the man looks like he’s almost twenty years younger. His physical prowess is amazing and he can do things that I have never seen anyone capable of.

As far as the weight loss angle goes, it’s merely impossible to shed your extra pounds if you really dedicate yourself to his program.

The great thing is not to look at it as a diet but just part of your daily life.

What effected me the most throughout our interview, was that he made sense of it all. The lightbulb went off in my head that being healthy wasn’t to be looked at as maintaining a temporary diet, but rather a necessity to your lifestyle. Being healthy seemed nothing less than common sense for me.

Now I must admit, I’m not the type of guy who watched his P90X videos. I figured there was no way a guy my size would ever be able to do what he does. But to my surprise, the program can be modified to help you at any size. Tony even gave me a demo of how he has people over that are over three hundred pounds that have had personal miracles thanks to Tony and their own hard work.

You and I are not the only ones that Tony helps to get back in shape. He has worked with dozens of celebrity clients and is one of the top guru’s in not only L.A., but the entire country.

Personally, I wasn’t sure of what to expect from a guy as famous and loved as Tony.
Within two minutes, he had me on the floor with laughter. He was a real person with common sense when it came to health and compassion when it came to training. He was the real deal.

I just watched the raw interview yesterday and could not believe how good it was.

Forgive me if I sound a little biased, but I can’t wait to finish this film so I can share this experience (among our other surprises) together with you all, on the big screen.

So thank you, Tony, for helping to make “Finding Thin” a film that can only be better with you in it.

Most importantly, thank you for giving me hope, and for making sense of this (now) seemingly nonsensical obesity epidemic.

Michelle Obama will soon be celebrating her one-year anniversary of her “Let’s Move!” campaign. With the combination of promoting a healthy diet, exercise, and providing resources to help kids and adults create an active lifestyle, Obama’s focus on changing the obesity epidemic has been nothing short of inspirational. And she’s just begun.

Americans are at an all-time high with their weight and statistics show that one out of every three kids are obese, but all it takes is that one step. It takes one step to start your own movement, whether it be making better food choices or even performing Beyonce’s “Flash Workout”.

It takes one step to make the healthy choice.

It takes one step to jump into action.

Beyonce Knowles is no stranger to the public eye. Her incredible voice has landed 16 Grammy’s, leading roles in feature films, and of course frenzied paparazzi trying to take the most unflattering pictures followed by ridicule of her size. But Beyonce rises above the negative and turns the tabloids into a celebration of showing off her curves; or better yet, her “bootylicious” self. Some say full-figured, others say fabulous. And whether you are “ready for this jelly” or not, Beyonce is a strong, healthy woman fighting the fight of obesity using her own lil’ swag.

I ain’t worried doing me tonight

A little sweat ain’t never hurt nobody

Don’t just stand there on the wall

Everybody just move your body.

Exercising is a key element to a healthy, active lifestyle. Beyonce’s new craze, “Move Your Body” is taking exercise to a whole new level; and most of all, she’s reaching a new and greater demographic…kids.

Exercise is considered a hassle or an obligation more often than it is empowering But perhaps Michelle and Beyonce can help those in need of a positive outlook when it comes to the active lifestyle.

In short, exercise can be fun….who knew?!

We NEED to stop standing against the wall.

We NEED to lift our feet off floor.

We NEED to be ourselves and move our bodies and our mindsets.

Let’s move. And let’s move our bodies towards the movement of anti-obesity.

What’s your post-workout snack strategy?

Snack trap!

I stayed at a hotel while on location recently and took advantage of the on-site gym. It was an impressive space, filled with every workout convenience. However, the conveniences of the space were overshadowed by the availability of junk food just outside the door.

I stopped at the vending machine across the hall from the Nautilus, hoping for a bottled water or an energy bar. Think they had any? Not even close. Chips and candy dominated the machine. Carbs after a work out I could see, but this was ridiculous. I was here to try to get healthy and lose weight, and the hotel and its gym weren’t helping my resolve.

It takes hours to burn off a soft drink or a bag of chips — far more time than I’d spent on my workout. And that’s what I reminded myself as I reluctantly walked past temptation. I had won my battle for now, but next time? It’s a constant struggle.

Please help! What strategies do you use to fight post-workout munchies?
